Travels
This gallery showcases our travels outside the lab sharing science, stories, and a good cup of coffee.
Summer in VUIIS
Scan time!
Collaboration
Collaborator Dr. Josh Beckman with Michael, Shannon, and Vanessa at VUMC patio, Summer 2022.
Bonfire
SALT Lab enjoyed a bonfire social, Fall 2022.
Guitarists
Michael and Robert jam for the lab bonfire.
Crescent Moon
Vanessa snapped an incredible photo of the crescent moon at the lab bonfire!
Caitlin at TLSAMP
Caitlin Johnnides received a 3rd place poster award at the TLSAMP conference! From what we heard, networking with @EngineeringatVU and undergraduates in STEM across Tennessee was unmatched!
X-nuclei MRI Conference
At the ISMRM X-Nuclei workshop in Marseille, France March 2023, Shannon took home the 1st place award for her presentation “Tissue Sodium is High in Fat and Fibrosis of Human Unilateral Lymphedema”. Congratulations from SALT lab!
Banff coffee + view
Shelly and Vanessa enjoy coffee and a view of the landscape in picturesque Banff, Canada at Lymphatic Forum 2023.
SALT MRI
SALT MRI research of lipedema and lymphedema was presented at Lymphatic Forum 2023.
Lymphatic Forum
Lymphatic Forum hosted parallel sessions by organ for the first time in 2023. Shelly presented at the "skin & lymphatics" session on skin sodium imaging in lymphedema and lipedema.
Milestones
Vanessa presented for the first time at Lymphatic Forum 2023! With over 50% recruitment for our clinical trial complete, every patient volunteer shows us just how much sodium is in lymphedema. We couldn't wait to share this with the lymphatic research community!
ISMRM Booth
Shelly and Cheyenne visit Bruker booth at ISMRM Toronto, 2023.
Alumni
Dr. Ravinder Reddy brings together alumni of the University of Pennsylvania, Center for Magnetic Resonance and Optical Imaging, every year at ISMRM. Shelly catches up with colleagues and pioneers in sodium MRI in Toronto 2023.
Colleagues
Dr. Adam Bush, Shelly, and Cheyenne pause for a photo at ISMRM Toronto 2023.
Imaging Scientists
SALT Lab and Donahue Lab members: Shelly, Megan, Maria and Alex. Together we study lymphatic imaging from head to toe.
Trainees
Trainees are pictured together from Vanderbilt University Institute of Imaging Science (VUIIS) at ISMRM Toronto 2023.
Land Acknowledgement
We learned about the First Nations in Canada through a Land Acknowledgement performance at ISMRM Toronto 2023. The same year at Lymphatic Forum in Banff, a Land Acknowledgement was given by host Prof. Pierre-Yves von der Weid, University of Calgary.
Yinan presents on lipedema
Teaching new medical professionals about lipedema - Yinan Zheng, VUMedicine Candidate Class of 2024, presented for the 1st time at ISMRM on radiology tools for fat & edema quantification in lipedema.
Michael presents at ISMRM
Keeping “Sodium & Adipose” in SALT Lab – Dr. Michael Pridmore presented at ISMRM 2023 his collaborative work on intermuscular adipose tissue sodium content in peripheral arterial disease. There are many questions still to explore about this adipose bed!
Shannon presents at ISMRM
Shannon Taylor, PhD Candidate in VU Biomedical Engineering, proudly presented sodium MRI findings in fibrosis & adipose tissue of legs with advanced lymphedema. We met Dr. Robert Sibley, fellow lymphatic imager, at ISMRM 2023.
Plenary Session at ISMRM
SALT MRI research presented by Shelly at the ISMRM Philips Lunch Symposium 2023. Shelly is pictured alongside session host Dr. Liesbeth Geerts Global director of MR Clinical Science and co-creation at Philips, and speaker Dr. Ben Kennedy Director of Clinical and Research MRI at Mermaid Beach Radiology.
Winter hats
Winter hats came in handy for Maria and Shelly while touring Washington DC ahead of the Lipedema Foundation retreat 2022.
Lipedema Researchers
